Organization

Fontys University of Applied Sciences presents itself as a learning community, which means that the focus of learning is on the development of professional and personal competences in small student groups, in close interaction with the society.[2] Fontys maintains close relationships with industry, business and public services.

The overall management of Fontys University of Applied Sciences lies with the Executive Board. Both the Executive Board and the individual schools call upon the Fontys Support Unit for a range of services. The Support Unit itself comprises a series of departments including ITC services, Student facilities, Administration and Domestic facilities.[2]

Fontys is based in the south of the Netherlands near the border with Germany and Belgium. The two largest Fontys campuses are located in the cities of Eindhoven and Tilburg. In Venlo, Fontys has recently established an International Campus.[3]

Recognition

Fontys is ranked in the top 60 electrical/electronics and mechatronic engineering universities in the world.[4]

Over 3,500 out of the 37,000 Fontys students come from abroad; they represent more than 70 countries around the world, with a large delegation from Germany. Many of these international students are enrolled as exchange students or degree students in English-taught bachelor and master programmes, often offered in cooperation with Fontys’ partner universities in other countries.

All Fontys degree programmes are accredited by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO) or equivalent British accreditation bodies. Fontys has signed the ‘Code of Conduct with respect to international students in Dutch higher education.’[5] This code sets out standards for Dutch higher education in their dealings with international students.
